About the community
Mai Sơn is one of six hamlets in Ba Lòng commune. It is situated in a mountainous very remote jungle area where travel is difficult especially during the rainy season. The population is both Kinh and Van Kieu. Most people are farmers but although they work very hard, they are extremely poor.
Helping the children succeed
Between 50 and 60 children study at Mai Sơn kindergarten. Challenging economic conditions for the families in this commune has meant that over one-quarter of the Mai Sơn kindergarten children are malnourished. VES has built and furnished a kitchen at the kindergarten. The 2024-25 academic year was the beginning of the lunch program at Mai Sơn kindergarten. This should greatly decrease the number of malnourished children and improve the health of all Mai Sơn children.
Funding and construction
Mai Sơn kindergarten was completed in April 2024. It is a two-room kindergarten, with washrooms and storage facilities. An adjacent building was converted into a kitchen for the kindergarten. Mai Sơn kindergarten was entirely funded by the Ptarmigan Foundation. This is the third kindergarten the Ptarmigan Foundation has funded! Thank you so much!
