About the community
Vầng hamlet is one of the nine villages that make up Ba Tầng commune in the rural mountainous Hướng Hóa district of Quảng Trị province near the border with Laos. This is a very poor, sparsely populated area. Most people are of the Van Kieu ethnic minority and farm for a living.
Helping the children succeed
Vầng hamlet’s over 60 three to five year olds did not have a kindergarten. Forty children shared one room in the primary school while another 24 were unable to go to kindergarten because of a lack of space. The new two room kindergarten (with fans, lighting, and washrooms) has allowed all the children to attend kindergarten. The primary school classroom has remained in use but with twenty children instead of forty.
Funding & construction
