About the community
Trùm hamlet is one of the nine hamlets that make up Ba Tầng commune in the rural mountainous Hướng Hóa district of Quảng Trị province near the border with Laos. This is a very poor, sparsely populated area. Most people are of the Van Kieu ethnic minority and farm for a living. Infrastructure in this area is underdeveloped; roads are in bad condition and there isn’t much of a water system.
Helping the children succeed
Trùm hamlet has had a two-room kindergarten for a number of years but there was not enough space to accommodate all the kindergarten aged children in the area. Over 40 children were unable to attend kindergarten because of a lack of space.
Funding & construction
In 2022, VES, with generous funding from Bob and Mary Hagedorn, built an additional one room kindergarten with lighting, fans, washrooms and a storage area next door to the current kindergarten. This ensured that all children are able to attend school.
Thank you Bob and Mary Hagedorn! Bob and Mary, their children and spouses also funded the large playground roof for Trum Kindergarten.
